Ty Newberry
Thousands of youth hockey coaches around the world have been motivated by Ty’s lively presentations and informed by his insight into what really matters.
Ty started his coaching career with his home club, the Greater Saginaw (Michigan) Amateur Hockey Association. He has coached every age group at the youth level, and even coached at the college level for a number of years.
Ty has been an instructor and speaker for the USA Hockey Coaching Education Program since 1998 and served as the Coach-in- Chief for the Southeastern District for 10 years.
From 2017-2019, Ty was on the coaching staff for the Lithuanian Men’s National Team. In 2018, the team took gold at the IIHF World Championships Division 1B.
In 2019, Ty was named head coach of the Israel National Teams. He leads the U18, U20 and the Men’s team. Ty has made a number of trips to work closely with players and coaches of the Ice Hockey Federation of Israel and the Israel Hockey Academy over the past 7 years.
He currently serves as Executive Director and General Manager of the Friends of Fort Dupont Ice Arena (www.fdia.org), the only indoor ice facility within the District of Columbia. Their Kids On Ice® programs serve thousands of inner-city kids each year. This is one of the most unique programs in the world, helping to keep kids off the streets and give them something positive to put their energy towards.
